Summary, etc. Set in the time of Henry VIII, this superb historical drama tells the story of William Tyndale and his fight to provide the Bible in English for the common man. A brilliant scholar, Tyndale was refused permission by the Church to carry out his work in England and had to flee to the continent. By moving from city to city he avoided capture and translated the New Testament - and much of the Old - before finally being betrayed by a friend. He was tried in Belgium and executed by strangulation and public burnt. Even the opposition of Henry VIII, sir Thomas Moore and Cardinal Wolsey couldn't stop him - his cause was more important than life itself. Within two years of Tyndale's death, Henry decreed that every church in England should display a Bible in English, Later, ninety percent of Tyndale's work was included in the authorised version - the standard English Bible for 400 years.
