In the preface to his two-volume work dedicated to a certain Theophilus (Luke 1:3; Acts 1:1), Luke candidly states his personal qualification to undertake the task of writing an orderly account of events which has transpired (Luke 1:1-4). He recounts his faithful review of the work of predecessors, and of his particular interest in what had been passed on by fellow believers, by eyewitnesses and the earliest preachers.
